Apple Music is offering a free five-month subscription for new Australian users of the tech giant’s Shazam music identification app.

The holiday special, which runs until January 17, 2021, was quietly unveiled in an update to Shazam’s App Store listing. Apple Music usually offers a three-month free trial.

Users download Shazam on their iPhone or iPad and identify any song by tapping the Shazam icon within the app. A conditional link then appears and directs users to the music streaming service.

Apple purchased UK company Shazam in 2017 for a rumoured US$400 million, and has been integrated with Siri and the iOS Control Center which allows users to discover the name of a song and the artist with just a tap. Shazam data is integrated into Apple Music for Artists to provide more data and analytics for musicians.
